Death

CHARLOTTE - Helen Furr Mize, of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews. Mrs. Mize was born March 29, 1924, to the late Carl Albert Furr and Sue Howell Furr in Concord. Her family soon moved to Salisbury, where she graduated from Boyden High School. She was the pianist for her church at only 12 years old. Her most favorite memory was the day she married Ernest. Helen and her family moved to Charlotte in 1963. She was a member of Lawyers Road Baptist Church and was former organist. Joy in life came from serving her church and spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted wife and mother. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Clifford Mize Sr.; son Ernest Clifford Mize Jr.; grandson Jeffrey Clifford Mize; sister Mildred Flora; and brother Charles Furr. Helen is survived by her loving children, Kitty Mize Smith and David Julian Mize, both of Charlotte; granddaughter Jennifer Mize; youngest brother Keith Furr of Brooksville, Fla.; and Sylvia Mize Young of Salisbury. The family would like to thank all those who made her final journey a peaceful one. Service: A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Salisbury, with the Rev. Richard Loman, a long-time family friend, officiating. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in Helen's name be made to Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care, P.O. Box 33549, 1918 Randolph Road, Suite LL-50, Charlotte, NC 28233-3549. Mrs. Mize's family is being served by the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington.
