Death

Mildred Furr Flora, 69, of Driftwood Cove, died at 3 am on Sept 29, 1989, at the Brian Center Nursing Care of Salisbury after being in declining health for the past 1 1/2 years. Mrs. Flora and her husband were owners and operators of Flora Steel Co. The funeral will be held at 11 am Saturday in the James C. Lyerly Funeral Chapel, conducted by Dr. Joel P Jenkins Jr, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Ned Christy, pastor of Emanuel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Members of Salisbury Chapter 117, Order of Eastern Star, will be seated in a group for the service. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 8 30 and the remainder of the time at their individual homes. Born Oct 3, 1919, in Rowan County, Mrs. Flora was a daughter of the late Carl and Sue Howell Furr. Educated in the Cabarrus and Rowan County schools, she was a member of First Baptist Church and the Salisbury Chapter 117, Order of Eastern Star, where she was a past worthy matron. Survivors include her husband, Herbert Flora Jr, whom she married Jan 10, 1936, four sons, Larry G. and Carl Steven Flora, both of Salisbury, Richard Kimery Flora of Route 1, Wilkesboro, and Wayne Flora of Granite Quarry. Two brothers, Charles Furr of Salisbury and Keith Furr of Blacksburg, Va. a sister, Mrs. Ernest (Helen) Mize of Charlotte, and seven grandchildren.
