ALBEMARLE — Lee Roy Furr, 71, of Route 1, died at 11 45 a.m. on May 27, 1989, at Stanly Memorial Hospital after an illness of eight weeks. The funeral will be held at 3 p m Tuesday at Stanly Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Henry Lee and a brother, the Rev. Homer Furr of Bradenton, Fla. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9. Born March 3, 1918, in Stanly County, Furr was a son of the late William Daniel and Alma Plyler. Furr retired from shipbuilding in Newport News, Va. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Farmer Furr, two sons, Navy Lt. Mickey Furr of Virginia Beach, Va and Roy E. Furr of Albemarle, three daughters, Barbara Marks of Bonita Springs, Fla., Karen F. Taylor of Rockford, Ill. and Cathy F Gary of Radcliffe, Ky. Two other brothers, Paul Furr of Norwood and WD Furr of Hampton, Va, two sisters, Idell Skinner of Norwood and Gertie Creed of Albemarle, 16 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
