Death
Family and friends mourn the death of Mrs. Gussie Mae Furr Ard. Mrs. Ard died of leukemia in Ochsner's Foundation Hospital in New Orleans on November 20, 1981. The Rev. John Carlisle conducted the service at Providence Baptist Church. The focus of the service was scripture from I Corinthians, Chapter 15, verses 19 and 20, and Proverbs 31, Verses 10, and 26 through 31. Bro. F.E. Sellers and Mr. and Mrs. Sherrod Rayburn provided the special music which included “What A Friend We Have In Jesus, How Great Thou Art, and In the Garden.” Mrs. Ard was a life long member of Providence Baptist Church, as were her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Augustus Furr, and her parents-in-law, the late Mr. and Mrs. James Isaiah Ard. Burial was in Providence Cemetery. Mrs. Ard was born December 6, 1911 at the family home near Ruth. She and Mr. Charley Floy Ard were married by Rev. B.T. Bishop at Ruth on April 12, 1933. Survivors, in addition to her beloved husband, include the following children, children-in-law, and grandchildren: Janet Gaynor McMurtray, her husband Frank, and their son Perry of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Della Carolyn Brekeen, her husband J.C., their children Sophia and Johnny of New Orleans, La.; Martha Lou Brister, her husband Willie Paul, their children David, Shane, Paula Brister Price and her husband Dan, Marty and Judie of Jayess; Jimmie Sue Ard of New York City; James Isaiah Ard, his wife Margaret, their children Jennifer and Jim of Ruth, and John Patrick Ard, his wife Bonnie, and their children John, Jason and Julie of Jayess. Mrs. Ard also leaves a brother Lane Ray Furr of Pascagoula, and two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Hughes, Horn Lake, Miss., and Mrs. Allie. Smith of Perkinston. Nieces, nephews, and cousins also mourn the passing of Mrs. Ard. The church overflowed with family and friends wishing to pay their respects to a wonderful Christian lady loved by all who knew her.Enterprise-Journal, McComb, Mississippi, December 8, 1981
