Notes
Death
Mission, Dec. 16. — Mrs. Martha Furr Hatley, wife of the late James P. Hatley, was born December 2, 1850, and departed this life December 11, 1987, age 87 years, one week and one day. She leaves behind to mourn her departure 13 living children, five boys and eight girls, as follows: Elmon, Willie, Dan, Isaac and Hardy, and Mrs. Sarah Harkey, Mrs. Attie Furr, Mrs. Jennie Mauney, Mrs. Cynthia Harrington, Mrs. Talitha Harwood, Mrs. Rhoda Honeycutt, Mrs. Rosa Lambert and Mrs. Ada Williams. She also leaves 86 grandchildren living, 22 deceased; 106 great-grandchildren living and 14 deceased, and four great-great- grandchildren living. Grandma Hatley, as she was called by most people, had been a faithful member of Running Creek church for the past 36 years. She lived a devout Christian life; was a patient sufferer during her illness. She was loved by everyone, and her untimely passing has cast a gloom over the entire community. Funeral services were held at Running Creek church Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock by Elder Jason Eudy, assisted by Elders Jones, Mullis and Almond. Twelve of the grandchildren carried the beautiful flowers. They were: Misses Annie Hatley, Emma Hatley, Mamie Hatley, Lecta Hatley, Elsie Hatley, Gertie Lambert, Louise Mauney, Bellzora Harrington, Rachel Mauney, Geneva Harwood, Ethel Honevcutt and Della Hatley. Pallbearers were grandsons, as follows: Sam Furr, James Harrington, Bill Harkey, Charles Hatley, Frank Mauney and Berry Hatley. Hundreds of people were present for the funeral Sunday afternoon. The ministers paid fine tribute to this good mother, grandmother and friend. We commend the children and loved ones to Him who doeth all things well.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, December 17, 1937
