CLINTON — Jack O. Furr, 58, owner of Dale Printing Co., died of cancer Sunday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. Services are 2 p.m. today at Parkway Baptist Church with burial in Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation is after noon today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home. Mr. Furr, a native of Attala County, was a longtime Jackson resident and had lived in Clinton for the past two years. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1962. Mr. Furr’s nephew, Randy Beach of Wiggins, said Mr. Furr had been in the printing business all his life. “Starting out he worked for someone else, and he went on his own, kind of as a sideline, roughly eight or nine years ago,” Beach said. Mr. Furr discovered he liked being his own boss, Beach said. “He found out he could do just as good with that as opposed to working for someone else.” Said Beach, “It was just a small printing business, mostly business forms, that kind of stuff.” Mr. Furr named his business after his son, Dale, now 11. “His family pretty much was tops,” Beach said. ‘He was constantly taking his son places and doing things with him,” he said. “It was one of those relationships where the father is the son’s best friend. His son plays soccer, and he loved to take him around for that.” Mr. Furr also enjoyed taking his son to watch the Jackson Mets play baseball, Beach said, “and Jack was also a pretty avid Ole Miss fan. He loved that.” Said Beach, “I’m a Southern supporter, and me and him used to get into it about that.” Mr. Furr had been married for 13 years, said Beach. “I know he was very good to my aunt. He put her and his son first in his life,” he said. “It’s like my aunt said earlier, he gave her everything in life that she needed, including a son.” Other survivors include: wife, Peggy; son, Jack O. “Dale” Furr II of Clinton; and brothers, James B. Furr and Carlton Furr, both of Louisville.Endnotes
