Death
James William "Billy" Furr, age 96, of Columbus, MS, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at his residence. He is now happily reunited with the love of his life, his wife, Dorothy. Funeral services will be Friday, December 19, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 19, 2014, from 12: 30 PM until the time of the service. Mr. Furr was born in Mashulaville, MS, on May 24, 1918, to his parents, Reverend A. C. Furr and Eva Priscilla King Furr. Mr. Furr is survived by his children, Bill Furr, (Tangy) of Columbus, MS, Don Furr, (David Bond) of Sun City, CA, and Jill Furr of Chattanooga, TN, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Furr was a Western Auto dealer for many years. He was a long time pioneer Mississippi broadcaster, and was a member of the Mississippi Broadcasters Association. Mr. Furr was a long time member of the Columbus Kiwanis Club, active member of the Board of Directors of Global Outreach International until his retirement, member of the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army, and also enjoyed his membership in the "Old Geezers Club." He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus for 75 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise Furr. Mr. Furr was an avid private pilot, boatsman, fisherman, and loved taking long trips with his loving wife in their RV. He was a generous and witty man who loved his family and will be greatly missed by those who loved him. Pallbearers will be Jason Heleniak, Charles Adkins, Tom Robinson, and Barry Parham.
