Death
McCALLS CREEK, MISS. | Carl Claude Furr, age 92, died January 22, 2005, at Trinity Healthcare in Columbus, Miss. Services will be today at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Columbus, Miss. with Dr. Bobby Douglas, Dr. Shawn Parker and Rev. Ron McDougal officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be today from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial Funeral Home of Columbus, Miss. is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include one daughter, Helen Lancaster and husband, Jerry, of Ralph, Ala.; son, James “Jim" Furr and wife, Pat, of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Cindy Graves and husband, Terrill, of Canton, Ga., Kevin Lancaster and wife, Melissa, of Ralph, Ala., Amy Morris and husband, Gerald, of Navarre, Fla., Patrick Furr and wife, Amy, of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Kelly Furr and wife, Kathleen, of Atlanta, Ga.; 13 great grandchildren, Lindsay Graves, Katie Graves, Rachel Graves, Matt Lancaster, Blake Lancaster, Forrest Mullins, Ryle Cannon, Taylor Cannon, Adam Morris, Luke Morris, Andrew Morris, Bradley Furr, and Zackary Furr; sister, Pansy Clarr of San Rafeal, Ca.; brother, J.W. “Billy" Furr and wife, Dorothy, of Columbus, Miss. and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Furr was born August 10, 1912 in McCalls Creek, Miss., the son of the late Arthur Conway and Eva P. King Furr. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus, Miss. where he was a deacon and member of the Platt Sunday School Class. He enjoyed going on mission trips with First Baptist Church. He was a retired Quality Control Inspector with U.S. Government. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and carpenter. He was an accomplished chef. He married Virginia Wasson Furr on December 29, 1937, in Columbus, Miss. and she passed away December 18, 2000. Pallbearers will be Gerald Morris, Terrill Graves, Patrick Furr, Kelly Furr, Kevin Lancaster, Ira Carter, Charlie Holcomb and Barry Parham. Honorary pallbearers are Platt Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Nurses and Staff of Trinity Healthcare and Billy Thompson. Memorials may be made to Trinity Family Group Christmas Bonus Fund, 300 Airline Road, Columbus, Miss. 39702.Endnotes
