Death
Letha Mae (Honeycutt) Smith, 91, of 275 South Oak Ridge, Oakboro, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at her home. Her funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at Red Cross Baptist Church with a 30-minute state, The Rev. Garry Baker and The Rev. Marvin Honeycutt officiating. Interment will be at Red Cross Baptist Church Cemetery in Oakboro.The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 25, at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle. At other times the family met at her home.Born Jan. 26, 1918, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Riley Hugh and Mamie Ellen (Furr) Honeycutt. She was a charter member of Red Cross Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Lee Smith; brothers, Floyd Honeycutt, Hugh Honeycutt, The Rev. Clifford Honeycutt, John Honeycutt, Bruce Honeycutt and James Honeycutt; and sisters, Zula Helms and Lois Smith.She is survived by two sons, Tommy L. Smith and wife Nanci of Oakboro and Larry Wayne Smith and wife Larcenia of Red Cross; three daughters, Linda Thompson and husband Donald, Jean Kennedy and Teresa Williams, all of Red Cross; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and four brothers, The Rev. Marvin Honeycutt, A.P. Honeycutt and R.H. Honeycutt, all of Concord, and Coy Honeycutt of Little River, S.C. The family would like to express appreciation to caregivers, Diana Coble and Bessie Garmon. Memorials may be made to: Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
