Death

Dr. George Currie Furr of Clarksdale, 85, died Monday, February 21, 2000, at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson of heart failure. Services were Wednesday, February 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksdale with Rev. Ed Woodall officiating. Burial followed in Oakridge Cemetery. Dr. Furr practiced medicine in Clarksdale for 48 years and was a member of Clarksdale and Six County Medical Society where he served as past secretary and president. Dr. Furr was also a member of the Mississippi Medical Association and was an active member of the University of Mississippi and the University of Tennessee Alumni Associations, Southern Medical Association, American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science and the New York Academy of Science. Dr. Furr was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Dale Griffin Furr, and his brother, Dorman Furr. He is survived by his daughter, Loydale Allen, and son-in-law, Edgar Allen, of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Carol Allen Popwell of Birmingham, AL and Mark Edgar Allen of Brookhaven; three great-grandchildren, Currie Allen, Callen Popwell and Jaybeth Popwell; and a nephew, Wayne Shannon Orr, Jr. of Clarksdale.
