Death
Venn Allison "V.A." Furr, 88, died of heart failure Jan. 21, 2007, at Mississippi State Veteran's Home in Oxford. He was born May 28, 1918, in Germantown, Tenn. and was the retired owner of Furr's Hardware in Marks, where he was a resident. He received a bachelor's degree from Southwestern College in Memphis and was a prominent Quitman County farmer. He was a veteran of the Navy during World War II, a member and elder of Marks Presbyterian Church and a former alderman for the City of Marks. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Cannon; brother, Joe Furr and a niece. Survivors include two sisters, Ella Venn Long and Jane Roseberry, both of Marks; two nieces and three nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 23 at Marks Presbyterian Church in Marks with Dr. Laurie Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Marks Cemetery. Venn Allison Furr, Jr., was accepted for Naval Reserve training in World War II, served on the Supply Ship, Tanker U.S.S. Mattole in Atlantic. Was discharged Jan. 14, 1946, with the rank Lt. (j.g.).Endnotes
