Death
Funeral services for Venn A. Furr of Marks will be held at the Marks Presbyterian Church at 2:30 Saturday afternoon with the Rev. C. R. Slider, Presbyterian pastor, and the Rev. Ira D. Eavenson, Baptist pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Marks Cemetery. Mr. Furr, who had been in falling health for about a year died at his home at about 6 a.m. today. He was 85. Born in Tocopola, Miss. Mr. Furr had lived in Marks off and on since 1889. He attended A&M College in Starkville from 1885 until 1888 and completed his education at a Louisville, Ky., business college. He then opened a store in Pontotoc, Miss., and slightly later sold that concern to go first to California and then to Oklahoma. In 1889, he opened his first store In Marks and later be came the town’s first postmaster. He lived In Belen, Miss, for a short period and in German town, Tenn. from 1917 to 1924, returning to Marks in the latter year and continuing his residence here, as store owner and planter from that time until his death. In 1894 he married Miss Add Hampton of LaFayette Springs, Miss. and several years after the death of his first wife married Miss Margaret Martin of Germantown Tenn. He leaves his wife, two sons Joe Furr of Indio, Calif. and Venn Allison Furr of Mark: and three daughters, Mrs. I. F. Long of Granada, Miss., Mrs. J. H. Rosenberry of Marks and Mrs. F. A. Cannon of Pano, Calif.Endnotes
