Death
Ella Venn Furr Long, age 101, of Marks, MS, died on Saturday, November 12, 2011 while visiting family in Elizabethton, TN. A native of Belen, MS, she was a daughter of the late Venn A. and Margaret Martin Furr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Everett Long, DVM; a son, Leslie Everett Long, Jr.; two brothers, Venn Allison Furr, Jr. and Joseph Randolph Furr; two sisters, Bessie Jane Furr Roseberry and Sarah Louise "Lucy" Furr Cannon. Mrs. Long was the last member of the greatest generation of the Furr family. Mrs. Long was a graduate of Belhaven College and also attended the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University and the University of Tennessee. She taught home economics and other courses for 35 years. She was an ardent supporter of her family, church, community and friends. Mrs. Long is survived by one son: Venn Allison Long and his wife, Carlene Bradford Long, of Elizabethton, TN; one grandson, Aaron Bradford Long of Lenoir City, TN; one great-granddaughter, Allison Mae Long of Lenoir City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Burial services will be conducted in the Marks Cemetery with funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, at the Marks Presbyterian Church. The family suggests that those who prefer memorials, in lieu of flowers, to make donations to the Palmer Home for Children, PO Box 746, Columbus, MS, 39703.
