Death
Mr. J. Watson Furr 60, died Monday, July 26, 1999 at Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at McEwen Charlotte Chapel with Rev. Mr. Ben Wenning officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Furr was born February 14, 1939 in Charlotte, NC to the late Judd Farrington Furr and Mary McCall Furr. He retired as station director after 35 years service with U.S. Air, beginning in 1961 with Piedmont Airlines. He managed a workforce of over 7,000 employees and was considered a well respected manager, having exceptional relationships with those around him, he was always optimistic, having a wonderful attitude and support of company objectives and was known as ‘one of a kind’ to his peers. Mr. Furr served in the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed fishing, building furniture and was an avid gardener, which was his real love. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Diane Gettis Furr and a brother, Bill Furr. Survivors include his children; Julie Robinson and husband Ricky of Davidson, NC, Donna Neiser and husband, Ray, of Cincinnati, OH; a son Brian Furr and his wife Danielle of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren, Nikki, Melissa, Sara, Jessica, Heather, Josh, Joseph, Timmy, Brian Watson and Billy. Loving friend and companion, CeCeilia Cress; sisters, Barbara Furr of Charlotte, Louise Foster, Concord, Phyllis Bennett, Cary NC, and Meta Lamb of Boise, ID, and also a loving uncle, numerous nieces and nephews.
