Death
MONROE—D. L. (Dave) Furr, Sr., 84, retired farmer, of Route 11, Indian Trail, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 3, 1961 in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. He was son of the late Caleb and Lou Tissiee Haigler Furr. His wife, the former Miss Lou Tissiee Helms, died March 4, 1947. Mr. Furr was a member of the Benton Crossroad Baptist Church and a former deacon of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was secretary and treasurer to the Junior Order of the Stephenson Council, Number 116, for a number of years. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Myrtle McFadden of Route 1, Indian Trail, Mrs. Louis J. Belk and Mrs. J. Morris, Warwick, both of Charlotte; 2 sons, D., L. Furr, Jr. of Charlotte and H. S. Furr of Kannapolis; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, W. O. Furr, Ocala, Fla.; 3 half-sisters, Mrs. Don Bowman and Mrs. Willie Moss, both of Greensboro, Mrs. Lee Trull of Charlotte. Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock this afternoon from the Benton Crossroad Baptist Church, Officiating will be the Rev. Vance Edwards, the Rev. R. N. Honeycutt and the Rev. C. W. Boatwright. Interment will be in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. The body was carried from McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe to the residence to remain until 1 hour prior to the service.The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte, North Carolina, September 4, 1961
