CPL. DONALD M. FURR Cpl. Donald M. Furr, age 19, of 6209 The Plaza was killed in action in Vietnam on July 7, 1968. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Pineville Church of The Nazarene with the Rev, Loren Schaffer, the pastor, officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted in Sharon Memorial Park. Born Aug. 23, 1948 in Charlotte, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Furr. He was a member of the Pineville Church of The Nazarene. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Funderburk Furr; his parents; sister, Miss Joyce Furr; three brothers, Jimmy Furr, Larry Furr and Gary Furr, all of Charlotte. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Rea, Watson Rea, Willie Rea, John Freeze, William Stitt, Sam Ross, Frank Culp, Russell Donaldson, Clyde Vance, James Adams, Lawrence Massey, Thomas Reid, Gilford Stradford, James Jant, Carl Rollins, Jack Jordan, Gary Fowler, David Phillips, Tim Stewart, Tony Darnell. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm. this evening at McEwen. Cpl. Furr will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes prior to services. Booby Trap Kills Local GI in South Vietnam Cpl. Donald M. Furr, 19, of 6209 The Plaza was killed Sunday by a booby trap in Vietnam. Cpl. Furr was drafted into the Army last October and sent to Vietnam April 1. He had received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star in connection with a shoulder wound suffered in May. He was born Aug. 23, 1948, in Charlotte, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Furr. He attended South Mecklenburg High School and worked as an apprentice plumber before entering the service. He was a member of the Pineville Church of the Nazarene. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Brenda Funderburk Furr: his parents; a sister, Miss Joyce Furr, and three brothers, Jimmy Furr, Larry Furr and Garry Furr, all of Charlotte.
