Death
CM/Sgt Euarl (Jim) Furr (93), USAF Retired, died peacefully at home in Austin TX on August 18, 2022. Jim was born on April 24, 1929 in Kannapolis NC to Charles A. Furr and Emma Brown Furr. He was the second of 5 children, graduated from J.W. Cannon High School and joined the US Air Force on August 3, 1948. In 1951 while on duty in Minnesota, he met Elsie E. Pangerl at the Silver Stripe Night Club and they married in St. Paul MN on September 29, 1951. In his 25 year career with the Air Force they raised 3 sons, Steven, David and Brian, while being stationed at several bases including Japan and Germany before retiring in 1973 at Bergstrom AFB in Austin TX, where he resided until his death. In the course of his service, Jim, a Vietnam Veteran, was awarded several commendations including the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal. Following his retirement, he worked at Gary Job Corps assisting young adults to find jobs after their graduation from the program. In retirement, Jim and Elsie took several cruises and met their goal of visiting all 50 states and Canada. Jim golfed several times a week through his 80's and was a keen reader, and crossword puzzle enthusiast. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin for over 45 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. Furr and Emma Brown Furr, sister Katherin (Meb) Morton, brothers Bois and Lewis (Ken), and granddaughter Shanna Nicole Furr, Jim is survived by his wife, Elsie, sons Steven and family (Denise, Candice McCarty, Aaliyah Woolsey), David (Dee), and Brian, sister Sue Garner (Bud), granddaughters Rebecca Ann Speer (Andrew) and Laura Elaine Furr, and great grandsons Jack and Graham Speer.Endnotes
