According to his obituary, his father died on January 12, 1907. Three children are listed, Samuel, Marie, and Mildred. His son James Edgar Furr, Jr. was born on 9 months later on September 9, 1907.Death
James E. Furr, 48, well know Gastonian, died Tuesday at 11:40 p. m, at his home, 518 Oakdale street, Sunrise Park. Mr. Furr had been in ill health for a number of years and recently received treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md., for some weeks. During World War II he served with the U. S. Army in the South Pacific Theater, and was discharged with a disability after he was stricken with a tropical disease. His last employment, before his illness, was with Norlander-Young Machine Company here. As a youth Mr. Furr lived in McAdenville and had made his home in Gastonia for about 24 years. He was a loyal member of the First Wesleyan Methodist Church here and was highly regarded by all who knew him. Mr. Furr was born on September 9, 1907 in Mecklenburg county, the son of the late James E. Furr and Laura McCoy Furr. The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a. m. at First Wesleyan Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lyman F. Lance, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park. Surviving Mr. Furr are his wife, Mrs. Hazeline Nolen; two sisters, Mrs. F. W. (Marie) Prim of McAdenville, and Mrs. James (Mildred) Moore of Cornelius; a brother, S. M.
