GASTONIA — Mrs. Hazeline Nolen Furr, 92, died Saturday, October 15, 2000 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Furr was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Robert Martin and Edna Bridges Nolen, wife of the late James E. Furr, sister of the late Carrie N. Dickert and Desaree N. Sandifer. Mrs. Furr was a long time employee of Southern Bell where she worked as chief operator of the Gastonia office for nine years. She was traffic manager for the state office in North Carolina for 14 years. She retired in 1972 with 45 years of service. She was also a member of First Wesleyan Church and was active in the Pioneers of America. Although she had no children of her own, she expressed love to all her nieces and nephews as if they were her very own. She was a friend who listed and helped them in time of need. Hazeline was dedicated to her family and always looked forward to time spent with them at family gatherings at her house. Her family looked to her for guidance. She had a giving spirit and was a supporter of her Church, First Wesleyan and the Hephzibah Children's Home. Deborah McDonald, great niece, helped care for her. She will truly be missed by her family. Survivors include her brother and sister in law and care givers: Herman and Dot Nolen of Gastonia; William T. and Mabel Nolen of Gastonia; brother, Robert E. Nolen of Gastonia; nieces and spouses: Martha Nolen and Marvin Beasley of Wilmington, Ohio; nephews and spouses: Herman Eugene and Linda Nolen of Gastonia, William Adams and Martha Ann Nolen of Gastonia. Great nieces and spouses: Robin and Dennis Lovin of Lincolnton, Deborah and Darrell McDonald of Gastonia, Ann Marie and Mike Roman of Gastonia, Carol and Kenneth Hagen of Gastonia, Kathy and Jim Murray of Cleves, OH, Pam and Jim Wyatt of Gastonia, Mary Faith and Frank Moxham of Charlotte; great nephews, Mart Nolen of Gastonia, Jimmy Nolen of Gastonia, Brad Nolen of Gastonia, Chris Nolen of Rock Hill, SC; great great nieces, Corrie Lovin of Lincointon and Taylor McDonald of Gastonia; great great nephews, Jason and Matthew Hudson of Gastonia, Jeremy Nolen of Gastonia, Shawn and David Hagen of Gastonia. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2000 at First Wesleyan Church of Gastonia. The Rev. David Vardeman officiating. Visitation will be from 7-9 tonight at McLean Funeral Directors. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park following the service. Pallbearers are Mart, Jimmy, Brad, and Chris Nolen, Darrell McDonald and Dennis Lovin.
