Death
SHAMROCK, Nov, 3. — (Special — Mrs. Olivia Parthenia Small, pioneer resident of Wheeler and Collingsworth Counties, died at St. Mary's Hospital in Shamrock after a brief Illness. She was 83 years old. Funeral services were conducted at the First Methodist Church here Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. W. A. Erwin of Ballinger in charge, assisted by Rev. Edw. C. Derr, Rev. Marvin B. Norwood and Rev. Sidney G. Menk. Pall bearers were: Harry Mundy, E. K. Caperton, B. F. Holmes, Frank DuBose, all of Shamrock, and Frank Anderson and J. B. Stevenson, both of Wellington. Interment was in the Shamrock Cemetery by the Nix and Clay Funeral Homes. Mr. and Mrs. Small settled at Aberdeen, Texas, in 1891 and established a general store at what was then the headquarters of the Rocking Chaire Ranch. Later they moved to Wellington where Mr. Small was elected county judge of Collingsworth County, a position he held longer than any other man. In 1903, she moved with Judge Small to Shamrock where he engaged in the mercantile and banking business. In 1930, they moved back to Wellington, at which time Judge Small became manager of the Hughes Estate. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1936. Mrs. Small became a member of the Presbyterian Church in early womanhood, having joined with her husband at Collinsville, Ala. She was a faithful attendant and when circumstance prevented her going to a Presbyterian Church, she was a regular attendant at the Methodist Church. She is survived by five daughters and three sons, Mrs. Ada Atkins, Mrs. Grace Holmes and Mrs. Nell Kromer, all of Shamrock, Mrs. Cleo Templeton, Wellington and Mrs. Harriett Mount, Amarillo; Clinton C. Small, Austin; Horace. M. Small, Shamrock and Hugh Small of Abilene. Survivors also include 28 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Lenke, age 96 of, of Cartersville, Ga.Amarillo Daily News, Amarillo, Texas, November 4, 1943
