FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. WOFFORD SATURDAY 3 P.M. The saddest duty that falls to the lot of the home paper is to record the passing of its people, one by one, to “that bourne from which no travelers returns.” And particularly sorrowful does the task become when the one to go is a woman respected and beloved by every one, as was Mrs. B. F. Wofford, affectionately know as “Grandma Wofford,” who passed away Thursday of last week at the home of her son, L. F. Wofford, at Kannima, Okla., at the age of 78 years and 10 months and 29 days. Sarah Furr was born April 28, 1850 in Habersham county, Georgia, At the early age of 15 years she consecrated her life to the service of Christ and entered the Baptist church. If ever the love and charity taught by the Master was exemplified in the life of a woman, it was in hers. Her ministrations to the sick, the poor and the needy throughout her lifetime embraced even the most lowly, and recognized neither race, creed nor color. She took particular pleasure in attending church and always loved to hear the Word of God taught by His misiters. Her faithfulness to her trust was shing example to all with whom she came in contact, and will continue to exert its influence on the lives of those who knew her. She was married December 18, 1866, shortly after the close of the Civil war, to Capt. B. F. Wofford of the Confederate forces. In 1881 they moved to Johnson county Arkansas, where they resided twenty six years, moving to Shamrock in 1907. Mrs. Wofford was the mother of eleven children, eight of whom are living. They are Frank Wofford, Mrs. Harl Etter and Mrs. Mamie Jett of this city, W. B. and Nat Wofford of Wheeler, L. F. Wofford of Kannima, Okla, Horace Wofford of McLean and Mrs. Daisy Hanson, who resides in New Mexico. Besides her children she is survived by her husband, a brother and three sisters, one of whom is Mrs. E. H. Small of this place, twenty-five Small of this place, twenty-five children. All the children except two, who were unable to come, and most of the grandchildren attended the funeral services which were held Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Jett. The services were conducted by Rev. A. C. Wood of Wheeler and Rev. Cal C. Wright of Shamrock. Six of her grandsons acted as pall bearers. They were Harry, Craig, Earl and Deward Wofford, Arch Jett and Jack Taylor. Hundreds of people gathered to pay a last silent tribute to this good and beloved woman, and one of the longest processions ever leaving the town followed the hearse to the cemetery, where she was gently laid to rest under a bank of beautiful floral offerings, which completely covered the grave. The Wheeler County Texan, Shamrock, Texas, Thursday, April 3, 1924
