Marriage
Laurel, July 7—The wedding of Lt. Pauline Beatrice Marstellar, Nurses Corps, U. S. Army, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Andrew Marstellar, Baltimore, Md., and John Marvin Furr, lieutenant. U. S. Army Air Forces, son of Mrs. Richard K. Booth and the late Dr. John Marvin Furr of Laurel, as solemnized on July 3rd at the post chapel, Randolph Field, Antonio, Texas where the bride and groom are now stationed. Chaplain George W. Goodley performed the ceremony. The altar was decorated with white Esther daises and fern and lighted cathedral candles. Sgt. Donald Willing, organist, gave the musical program. The bride, given in marriage by Lt. Col. J. Nerhill Reek, commanding officer of the Randolph Field hospital, was gowned in white marquisette over taffeta. Her finger-tip veil was caught to her coiffure with a pearl-studded coronet. She carried a Colonial bouquet of white peonies and stephanotis. Lt. LaVerne Maurice Chagnard, Randolph Field, was the bride’s attendant. Her frock was of pale pink marquisette over taffeta and her Cardinal cap was the same shade. Her arm bouquet was of pink carnations. Lt. Hugh Irving Gilham, U. S. Army Air Forces, served as best man. A reception followed at the Officers’ club which had white and green for the decorative motif. Lts. Rose Taylor and Ruth C. Jackson, U. S. Army, assisted in serving refreshments. Richard K. Death
John M. Furr, 87, of Laurel, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, with burial in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel. Dr. Wade Rogers and the Rev. Tommy Davis will officiate. He was a retired accountant and office manager for medalist industries. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, as a major with the 30th army as a pilot and instructor. He was a member and deacon of Hebron Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Bowling Green Business College, a member of Phi Kappa Alpha and past president and life member of the Laurel Exchange Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Marsteller Furr; a daughter, Ann Kiick; two infant sons; a sister, Edith Shaw; and mother, Melne Booth. He was a beloved father, grandfather and husband. He is survived by his wife, Anice Gardinier Furr of Laurel; a son and daughter-in-law, John R. “Dickey” and Judy Furr of the Hebron community; a daughter and two sons-in-law, Mary Kay and Carlo Juliano of the Calhoun community and John Kiick of the Calhoun community; six grandchildren, Ricky Furr, Scott Furr, Chris Kiick, David Kiick, Jennifer Mackrell and Kaye McLeod; and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be deacons of Hebron Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to the Hebron Baptist Church Building Fund.
