Anice Hasell Gardinier Dembski Haggerton Furr, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law, passed away following a fall at home Friday, June 22, 2012, at the age of 93. She was born in Laurel, Mississippi on April 12, 1919. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Anice Gardinier; sister, Louise Simpson from Laurel, MS ; three wonderful former military husbands: Stephan J. Dembski, father of Anice's six children; Lt. Cmdr. Robert J. Haggerton; and John M. Furr; and her eldest daughter, Deborah Ann Dembski Shelton. Anice is survived by her children, Stephan Dembski and wife Beth; John Dembski and wife Linda; Phil Dembski and wife Evelyn; Jane Dembski; and Gayle Dembski. Anice is also survived by her grandchildren, Anice Shelton; Noel Veith and husband Michael; Sarita Gottlich and husband Todd; Robert (Beto) Shelton Jr.; Katie Shelton; Susan Tracy and husband Josh; Trey Dembski; Terri Dembski; Chris Dembski; Andrew Dembski; George Dembski and wife Beverly; John Dembski II and wife Johnna; and Cody Dembski. Other survivors are her 18 great-grandchildren. Anice was known for her sweet disposition, big warm smile, singing along with Frank Sinatra and dancing to Big Band music. She had a full life of working hard as a secretary, traveling, volunteering, but mostly being a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family wishes to thank the staff at Amazing Place Memory Care Day Center ; Linda Darnell, caretaker of Anice for 4 1/2 years and recent caretakers: Cecile Padilla, Melinda and Haydee Espinosa, for their loving and compassionate care. Anice will be sorely missed by her family members, friends and caretakers. A visitation was held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in the Miller Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service celebrating Anice's life was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 28, 2012 at St. Martin 's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056, where the Reverend Martin J. Bastian, Sr. Associate Rector of Pastoral Care, is to officiate. Immediately following the service, all were invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall. A Graveside Service was held in Laurel, Mississippi at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2012 at Hickory Grove Cemetery, 1523 W. 15th Street.
