Dr. John Marvin FURR
(30 May 1881 - 5 May 1925)
DR. MARVIN FURR, born in Toccopola in 1881, is the son of William Meek and Mary Haseltine Pickens Furr. He received his elementary education at Toccopola College under Professor "Billy" Barr Gilmer. He then attended the University of Mississippi in 1900-1906, when he received his B.A. degree and two years pre-medic work; during his last two years he was assistant to Drs. Bondurant and Dupree in Latin and Greek. In 1916 he enrolled Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. After he finished there, he was assistant to Dr. W.A. Evans in the Cook County Health Department. He served his internship in the House of Correction Hospital. Upon graduation, Dr. Furr opened an office in Aberdeen, and after one year there, he moved to Pontotoc, where he practiced until his untimely death in May, 1925. He married Melna Belle Richards in November, 1911, who was from Laurel, and to this union the following children were born: John Marvin, Jr., and Edith.

The honor of your presence is requested. The bride-to be is a charming and popular young lady, and numbers a wide circle of friends in this city.
