Death
Mrs. Inez Furr Nowell, 79, former Kosciusko City Clerk, died Dec. 5, 1988 at the Attala Nursing Center following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the City Cemetery. Mrs. Nowell, a native of Attala County, served as assistant city clerk from 1965 to 1969 when she became city clerk, the position she held until her retirement in 1977. She had served as secretary-treasurer, vice-president and president of the Mississippi Municipal Clerks Assn. and co-authored the handbook “A Guide to City Clerks.” She was also associated with Shanks Grocery for 35 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ann Windham and a grandson, Steve Windham, both of Kosciusko. Her son, Jan Nowell, died Oct. 27. She was the widow of Jack Nowell. The Rev. Dr. L. Edward Gandy officiated. Pallbearers were Bill Cummins, Arthur Cook, Wayne Rawson, Wesley Kuykendall, Thomas Craft, Jack Jordan and Claude Guess.
