Death
Services for James Arvin (Jack) Nowell, Kosciusko barber, who died here Sunday about noon at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital following a heart attack Thursday, were held Monday afternoon at First Baptist Church. He was 59. Burial was in Kosciusko City cemetery, with Nowell Funeral Home in charge. Born in Ethel community of Attala County, Nowell had lived in Kosciusko all of his adult life. He had owned and operated Nowell’s Barber Shop here since 1928. He was a Baptist, taught the junior boys Sunday School class and was chairman of benevolence committee at First Baptist Church for many years. He was active in other departments of church work. He was a member of Trinity Lodge 88 of the Masons, and a member of Independent Barbers Association of Mississippi. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Inez Furr Nowell of Kosciusko; a daughter, Mrs. Eugene Windham of Kosciusko, and a son, Jan Nowell, who is attending Delta State College in Cleveland, Miss., three brothers, Aden Nowell, Alton Nowell and Alfred Nowell, all of Kosciusko; a sister, Mrs. Arvalon Ory of New Orleans, La., and one grandchild.The Star-Herald, Kosciusko, Mississippi, March 26, 1964
