Death
Clara Elizabeth Furr Hatley, 84 years of age, of Locust, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at her residence in the Mission Church Community. Clara was born October 24, 1929 in Stanly County to the late Bessie Lee Walters Furr and Lonnie Furr. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Claude E. Hatley The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Jeremy Hyde and Rev. Rick Durham will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Mission Baptist Church. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Clara is survived by her daughter, Eugenia Hatley and husband, Douglas S. Shadwick, Sr., of Chapel Hill; sons, Lawrence Dee Hatley and Mark Wendell Hatley of Locust; brothers, Charles Barbee of Midland and Toby Furr of Oakboro; sisters, Sarah Love of Concord, Brenda Morgan of Locust, and Mable Hartsell of Oakboro; grandchildren, Douglas S. Shadwick, Jr. and Noah Eugene Hatley. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Mary Smith, Clara's dedicated companion. Due to Mary's attentive care, Clara's quality of life was vastly enhanced thoughout her illness. Also, the family expresses deep gratitude to friends and to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County. Memorials may be made to the Mission Baptist Church Cemetery fund, 12444 Mission Church Road, Locust, NC 28097 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
