Sally GREEN
(Abt 1875 - Abt 1937)
The 1900 census shows Sally and her children as black.
According to the census records, Sally Green was born about 1874. She first married a man with the last name of "Bullimore." According to the census records - Beat 5 Tunica, Mississippi, for 1900 and 1910, she lived next to this "Julius Pink" Furr. Then in the 1920 census records, her name is "Sally Furr." All the children's last names were Bullimores until the 1920 census record and their names are all "Furr" and she is a widow. I have a marriage record showing Sally Bullimore married a J.P. Furr on 14 September 1910. The 1930 census shows Sallie Furr age 55, Maggie Furr, age 30 and Tine Sullivan (a cousin) age 53. The census says Sallie Furr is a widow. My grandmother was Rose Furr, the youngest daughter of Sally Green Bullimore Furr. I really don't understand why her name changed from Bullimore to Furr according to the census records. All my life she was called a "Furr", but according to the census records, she was 18 months old in 1910 and her last name was Bullimore. My dad was born in 1932. He says he barely remembers his Grandma Sally. He says that when she died, he remembered running behind the wagon carrying her body in a pine box to her grave site. He also told me that once he was grown, he and his father, Wilford Spencer went to find Grandma Sally's grave. There was never a grave marker and that crops were planted over the area where she was buried. Most of the Furrs I know, think this J.P. Furr was Julius Pink Furr, who was the son of Dr. Solomon Furr and Adaline Brown from Cabarrus NC. His grandparents were Henry Furr & Rhoda Stallings and great-grandparents were John Dolan Furr and Catherine Sively. Sallie Bullimore and Julius Pink Furr were neighbors until they married in 1910. All of her children with births about 1900 to 1915 were illegitimate. Sallie’s last name was still a “Bullimore”. Sallie gave those children her married name, but their father was actually Julius Pink Furr. My dad, One of Rose Furr Spencer’s sons says Sally Green was a full blood indian, but I am unaware of which tribe -- Choctaw, Chickasaw, etc. From other records, it list her as mulatto or black.
