Death
Mrs. Mary Matilda Furr, 83, died early Wednesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lonnie Osborne, in Stanfield following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Love’s Grove Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. John Rufty and Rev. John H. Connell. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body was taken from the Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland to the home in Stanfield on Thursday afternoon to remain until taken to the church on Friday afternoon. A native of Stanly County, Mrs. Furr was the daughter of the late Hiram and Dovie Love Burris. She was a member of Love’s Grove Methodist Church and was married to John H. Furr who preceded her in death. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Z. E. Witkers of Kannapolis, Mrs. Spurgeon Osborne and Mrs. Lonnie Osborne of Stanfield, and Mrs. Clifford Pinion of Midland; four sons, Lewis of Oakboro, Roy of Stanfield, Ralph and Robert of Locust; 18 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; three brothers, Martin Burris and Henry Burris of Mt. Pleasant, and George Burris of Albemarle; and one sister, Mrs. Hubie Love of Stanfield.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, October 19, 1962
