Individual Details

Mary Ann B. FURR

(Abt 1820 - )

Listed in the 1850 and 1860 Pope County, Arkansas, census. Roland is not listed in the 1860 census. Mary Ann is listed as head of household 343 in Clarke Township (London Arkansas area). She is living next door to Harwood Cagle and his wife Catherine Furr and Richmond Lee age 55 of North Carolina and his wife Judy. Next door to Richmond Lee is Frances E. Alman and her husband Jas. T. Williamson who married 17 Aug 1859 Book C Page 171 in Pope Co. AR. There is a James L. Williamson who doesn't fit the same age as this James who has a wife Euphemy age 27, who might be Francs E. They have three children. Fanny J. age 4, John T. age 2 and Sally Ann age 2/12. They are living in Clarke Township.

Sarah Lavina Almond married Benjamin Franklin MORROW on 11 Jul 1869 Book D page 209 Pope Co. AR. She died 23 Sep 1911 in the Oklahoma Confederates Home at Ardmore, OK. Benjamin was born 25 Jan 1947 died 24 Jun 1923 in Confederates Home at Ardmore. He was in Reg. A, Hill's Reg. CSA. This information came to me from Judy Keller of Auburn, Massachusetts, who received it from Debra Anderson KyleA@jps.net who is a descendent of this family. Debra will have more on this family.

Elizabeth C. Almond married Thomas A. Faulkner 01 Jan 1875 Book D page 372 Pope Co. AR. Children in the 1880 census: Ninnie Bess age 4, Dora H. 2, Rosala Mar 1880.

Lina,
I know it has been a long time, but I haven't forgotten about all that you sent to me... just now focusing on this line (again) & able to get to a library that has some more information. AND came up with some ideas as to the father of my Mary Furr Almond. <G>

If you look at the 1830 Stanley Co., NC census there is a John Furr Sr. listed (Believe this is John Furr, s/o John s/o Henry & Russena):
M 1-5 1-10 1-15 1-60
F 1-10 1-15 2-20 1-30 1-50

next door:
John Furr Jr. (believe this is John s/o John Dolan Furr. He was born 1807 and married Beneeta Burris. = too young to be f/o my Mary and no female of the correct age listed):
M 2-5 1-15 1-30
F1-5 1-30

Then look at the 1840 Stanley CO Census. Listed is John Sr.:
M 1-15 1-20 1-70
F 1-60

"Several doors down" (!) is my Rowland & Mary Furr almond HH:
m 1-30
F1-5 1-30

Near by is a Paul Furr HH -believe this to be Paul S. & Sarah Harwood Furr. Note that he is not old enough to have a child born 1820(my Mary b.1820), and they have a Mary Ann listed in the 1850 census age 7 = doubt they would name two females Mary-- though it is not unheard of-- but if this is indeed Paul S. Furr HH, then he is ruled out as f/o my Mary because of age.

& also listed near by in the 1840 census is a Jeff Furr HH DO YOU KNOW who this is? It seems that he is also too young to be father of my Mary--- He is not listed in Stanley CO in 1850 that I can see.

(My)Rowland Almond who married Mary Furr, settles in AR with his family. Note that his wife and children are listed twice in the 1850 census. Once with Rowland Almond HH in AR, and once with Sarah Almond HH 426/427 in Stanley County, NC(believe that Rowland went to AR to "scout out" the area, and then brought his family back with him)-- & could be that this is the person my Sarah d/o Rowland and Mary was named after--.
NOTE:Adam Furr, s/o John Dolan Furr, also settles in AR, at the same time, near my Rowland Almond HH. I have always known that my Mary was somehow related to this Capt. Adam Furr. I believe that they were brother and sister!

William Thomas Albright has not accounted for all the individuals in the 1830 Stanley Co, NC HH of John Furr Sr.. Specifically, he does not account for the female age 1-10. My Mary accounts for the female age 1-10. And figuring that she is then living several HH down from him in the 1840 HH (just married), there seems to be a connection. She then moves with her husband to AR, at the same time Adam Furr does= her older brother. In the 1860 census, her husband is not accounted for and she is listed HH (assume he has died, have not found a death notice or will) and she is close by to Adam--

All of these coincidences seems to add up. My Mary Furr who married Rowland Almond in Cabarrus CO, NC July 9,1838 (=documented) is the child of John Dolan Furr and Abigail Stallings.

I would like some feed back on my theory.

Please let me know your thoughts on this. Also would like to know who this Jeff Furr is listed in the Stanley CO NC 1840 census.

& further noting that I haven't been able to track my Mary after 1860 --haven't had the time and opportunity -- but suspect she may have gone back to Stanley CO, NC as she is not listed in AR.

Best regards to all,
Debra Anderson
