Death
Funeral services for William C. Furr were held last Tuesday in the Mesa cemetery at Gila with the Rev. Rhea Kuykendall officiating. Burial was under the direction of Cox Mortuary. Pallbearers for the services were J.B. Falls, Bob Hooker, Randolph Franks, Elgin Clark, Joe Hooker and Roland Ball. Mr. Furr died Wednesday, May 7. He was 56. A native of Uvalde County, Tex., he came to New Mexico with his parents when he was five years old. The family first settled at Hope and then moved by wagon train to Grant County in 1913. Earlier in life, he worked on various ranches and later operated a farm on the Gila River near Cliff. Later, failing health caused him to give up farming and move to Silver City. Survivors are his wife, Bessie Furr; two children, Phillip Aguirri, Washington D.C., and Mrs. Janie Annn Herrick, Ft. Sill, Okla; a sister, Mrs. Della Clark of Sliver City; three grandchildren, four nieces and two nephews. All of the survivors attended the services at Gila.Endnotes
