Death
William Riley Furr, 61-year-old resident of Route 3, Albemarle died Thursday afternoon about 3:30 after he was struck in the chest by a piece of timber at a sawmill near his home off the Concord Road several miles west of Albemarle. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Stanly County Hospital. Death was attributed to internal injuries caused by the blow. Funeral services were held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. A. T. Treece. Burial followed jin the church cemetery. Born July 20, 1902 in Stanly County, Mr. Furr was the son of the late Riley and Minnie Eudy Furr. Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Mattie Gardner; two sons, Billy of Albemarle and Carl of South Carolina; three daughters, Mrs. Horace Smith and Mrs. James Dennis of Albemarle, and Miss Frances Furr of the home; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Albert and Lonnie Furr of Albemarle, and Paul Furr of Mt. Pleasant; and three sisters, Mrs. R. H. Sington of Morganton, Mrs. H. O. Lambert and Mrs. Fred Connell of Albemarle.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, April 7, 1964
