ALBEMARLE — Floyce Lillian Furr Smith, 74, died on Saturday evening, January 26, 2008, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, at Friendship United Methodist Church, Albemarle, N.C., conducted by Rev. James Allred and Rev. Ronald Honeycutt. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. She was born August 18, 1933, in Stanly County, N.C. She worked in Quality Control for Allison Manufacturing. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, January 28, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service on Tuesday. Floyce Lillian Furr Smith, 74, of Albemarle went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 26th, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. She was born August 18, 1933, in Stanly County, the daughter of Mattie Gardner Furr Huneycutt of Albemarle and the late William Riley Furr.Floyce graduated from Millingport High School and then married her sweetheart, Horace Alexander Smith, in 1952. She followed Horace during his tour of duty in the Army in Anchorage, Alaska, which left a true love in their hearts for Alaska.Floyce was employed at the hospital in Alaska, and upon returning to Albemarle, she later worked at Wiscassett Mills until she left to have children and then travel with Horace and children along with their NASCAR family. Floyce retired from Allison Manufacturing where she worked in Quality Control.Floyce was a lifetime member of Friendship United Methodist Church. The love of her church was shown through her devotion as church secretary, member of many committees, her activities in Women’s Circle, program presenter of many activities, and treasurer officer of the Fellowship Club. She participated in the Saturday morning church breakfasts, bake sales and Bible School where she offered treats.Floyce was the perfect grandmother, and she gave unlimited love, support, and encouragement to her grandchildren. She attended many sporting events, award ceremonies, and school events for them all.Her husband, Horace Alexander Smith, her father, William Riley Furr, and stepfather, Ted Huneycutt, preceded her in death.Survivors in addition to her mother are: son, Danny Ray Smith and wife, Kimberly, of Trinity; daughter, Crystal Smith Edwards and husband, Garey, of Albemarle; grandchildren, Alyssa Smith, Clifton Edwards and Steven Edwards; brother, Billy Furr, and wife, Ruby, of Kanna-polis; brother, Carl Ray Furr and wife, Betty Jean, of Pacolet, S.C.; sister, Annie Lois Dennis of Albemarle, and sister, Kay Walker and husband, George, of Mount Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. Her in-laws are: Ruby and Gilbert Pickler of Albemarle, Elizabeth and Albert Stocton of Concord, Janice Smith of Albemarle, and Arlene Burleson of Albemarle.Her funeral is at 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008, with a 30-minute state at Friendship United Methodist Church in Albemarle with The Rev. James Allred and The Rev. Ronald Honeycutt officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery.The family received friends at Hartsell Funeral Home Monday, January 28, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the home, 1405 Heritage Court, Albemarle.Memorials may be made to Friendship UMC, Hospice of Stanly County, American Cancer Society, or American Heart Association.Arrangements are by Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.
