Individual Details
Sarah Elizabeth "Sallie" FURR
(6 Oct 1827 - 13 Aug 1881)
I received from Coy Hatley of Stanfield, NC the papers from the estate of Esq. John Furr from Stanly Co. NC. Coy got these from the NC archives in Raleigh.
Stanly County - In the Probate Court.
In the matter of the will of John Furr, dec'd
Before S. H. Milton, CJC (not sure if the J is correct)
W. E. Furr & Martin F. Furr being duly sworn, doth say:
That John Furr, late of said County, is dead, having first made and published his last Will and Testament: and that Wm. E. Furr and Martin Furr are the executors named therein.
Further, that the property of the said John Furr consisting of hogs, wagon, buggy, blacksmith tools & c. is worth about $650.00, so far as can be ascertained at the date of this application; and that John Furr, Wm. E. Furr, Davidson Furr, Martin F. Furr, Jas. M. Furr, Daniel M. Furr's heirs, Isaac(marked through and Sarah added above) Hatley's heirs, Wiley Eudy (marked out) Elmira Eudy, Minta Eudy, Catharine Furr, Beneaty Furr, Mary Ann Lowder are the parties entitled under said will to the said property.
Sworn to and subscribed before me, this 24 day of March 1888.
S. H. Milton, CJC Wm. E. Furr
Martin F. Furr
I think this should be proof enough that my great great grandmother, Sarah E. Furr, wife of Isaac Wiley Hatley, is the daughter of Esq. John Furr and Beneeta Burris.
There is also attached a list of items sold at the estate sale plus lots of receipts from various people that paid the estate for various reasons, and receipts of expenses from Wm. E. Furr.
I will send you both a copy of this if you want it.

I can't clear up the dates for you. I had that Daniel M. was born 1825, then changed to the date you have on your site 1827. In the 1850 Stanly Co. census he is age 23 and Sarah is age 21. In the 1860 Stanly Co. census he is age 35 and she is 32. The census was taken before her birthday in October. Sarah's dates come from her tombstone in St. Paul Cemetery, which was put there in the 1980s by a grandson. I don't know where he got the dates. I had her birth date from my Great Grandmother Eva Carter Hatley's old journal. She wrote down the dates so that they would not be forgotten. A member of the oldest daughter's family still has this journal. So I'm not sure that this clears up either one of them.
