Death
Newberry — Ruth Smith Bowers, 96, wife of the late Harold N. Bowers, died Friday, December 1, 2017 at White Oak Manor in Newberry. Born on November 14, 1921 in Mountville, SC, she was the daughter of the late T. Miller and Essie Furr Smith. Mrs. Bowers was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA. She was also a member of Road Runners and the Farm Bureau Home Demonstration Club. A determined woman who was both personable and conversational, made her appreciated as a volunteer at Newberry County Hospital and at White Oak Manor. When not involved in other activities, she enjoyed spending time doing needlework, cross stitching and quilting. She is survived by her daughter, Anne (Dick) Neel of Silverstreet; grandchildren, Nan Loadholdt (Gary) of Irmo, Clark Neel (Phyllis) of Newberry and Harold B. Neel (Peggy) of Greer; great grandchildren, Michael Loadholdt (Kristi), Jeremy Loadholdt (Sara), Emily N. Knight (Todd), Garrett Neel and Collin Neel; and a great-great granddaughter, Jordan Knight. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her great grandson, R.C. Neel and her siblings; Larry Smith, Sara Livingston and Margaret Boozer. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 in Newberry Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Gary Loadholdt and the Rev. Harry Crout.
