Obituary, "The Newberry Observer and Herald & News," Newberry, SC, p. 10:Harold N. Bowers, 65, of Rt. 4, died Sunday night at the Richland Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bowers was born in Newberry County, a son of the late Johnnie Hamilton and Annie Nichols Bowers. He was owner of Harold N. Bowers Logging, Inc. and a farmer. He was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church and the LCM. He was also a member of Amity Masonic Lodge No. 87, the Newberry York Rites Bodies, Hejaz Shrine Temple and the Newberry Shrine Club. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Smith Bowers; a daughter, Mrs. Dick (Anne) Neel of Silverstreet; three sister, Mrs. Maxie (Lula Mae) Hawkins of Prosperity, Mrs. Bill (Frances) Long of Newberry, and Mrs. Carl (Catherine) Long of Silverstreet; two brothers, J. H. Bowers, Jr. of Silverstreet and Guy Bowers of Newberry; three grandchildren, Miss Nan Neel, Clark Neel and Harold B. Neel, all of Silverstreet. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by Rev. D. Rodney Gunter. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites. The family will be at the residence on Rt. 4, Newberry and will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family suggest that those who wish may make memorials to the Silverstreet Lutheran Church B-B-Q Pit. Pallbearers will be Voight Kunkle, Lambert Feildings, Ray Hatcher, Jessie Wilson, Jr., Willie J. Neal, Joseph Rhodes, Jr., Sherman Elkins, Alvin Tucker, Edwin Epting, Ranie Neal, Jr., Clarence Abrams, Lonnie Boyd, Salamon Nelson, Jr., Willie F. Sheppard, Robert Gallman, Earl Mack Wilson, John Henry Davis, Benny Neal, Grady Jeter, James L. Brown and Dr. and Mrs. E. Gordon Able. Whitaker Funeral Home is in charge.
