Notes
Death
Sara Smith Livingston, "Miss Sara," 96, formerly of Charles St., Newberry, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 26, 2012 in Boiling Springs., SC. Mrs. Livingston was born in Laurens Co. on Jan. 19, 1916, a daughter of the late Miller and Essie Furr Smith. The Smith family moved from Mountville to Mollohorn to work in the mill after her brother, Larry, was promised a larger home and work for the family. They moved in a wagon drawn by a mule at night. There "Miss Sara" met the late Paris Livingston and they were married over thirty years until his death. She retired from Damon International after many years of faithful work and after she retired she regularly volunteered at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Sara loved the Lord and her church, Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, where she was an active member as long as she was able to attend and also was a member of WELCA. She was a former volunteer with the American Red Cross. When her health began to fail, Sara moved to Spartanburg to live with her son, Johnnie P. Livingston, and his wife, Betty. After staying at their home for two and a half years, she moved to Wesley Court Assisted Living in Boiling Springs, SC. She enjoyed living there, and the staff and other residents loved her and her company. Her son and daughter-in-law were always there to care for her when she could no longer care for herself. Mrs. Livingston is survived by her son and his wife; a sister, Ruth S. Bowers of Silverstreet; grandchildren, Suzanne Cobbs and Claudette Livingston, both of Columbia, and Jay D. (Mary) Livingston of Pelion; great grandchildren, Walter Kenneth Cobbs, Krystal Livingston, Sara Livingston, Sabrina Odom, Alexander Johnson, and Jesse Nichols; and many nieces and nephews, whom she was very fond of, especially Ann Neel. She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret S. Boozer and a brother, Larry T. Smith. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 4, at 3:00 PM at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Mary Havens. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 in the church fellowship hall prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Clarence Livingston, Thomas Shaver, Butch Price, Harold Neel, Clark Neel, and Gary Loadholdt.Endnotes
