Notes
Death
BLISSIT, Janis Furr "Granjan" we lost a precious wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on April 19, 2015, when Jan Blissit passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She will be missed by so many who knew and loved her. Jan was born in Llano, Texas, on February 20, 1942, to Raymond Furr and Elizabeth Idol Furr. She grew up in Llano and later Austin, where she attended McCallum High School. She still enjoyed lunches and time spent with those special friends from her high school days. Jan met the love of her life, Mickey, in Austin and they married in 1960. They had two sons, Michael and Mark. Jan's proudest achievement was her family. She and Mickey never missed a game or event their sons or granddaughters were involved in. Celebrating 55 years of marriage in March, Jan and Mickey were the picture of loving devotion. Jan was a loyal supporter of the University of Texas, particularly the Longhorn Baseball team. While surrounded by family and friends, she passed away listening to the Horns triumphant baseball game against Kansas. She and Mickey had many dear friends and long-lasting friendships they made at the ballpark. Over the years, GranJan was a surrogate mother and grandmother to countless individuals. She and Mickey's home was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay, no matter how long. Whether teaching kids the art of baking cookies or attending Grandparent's Day with a child whose grandparents lived out of town, GranJan was always putting "her kids" first. Jan is preceded in death by her parents: Elizabeth Renfro and husband, Fritz; Raymond Furr and wife, Bettye; Horace Blissit and wife, Mary Frances, a brother, Col. William Randall Furr and sister, Lizanne Starr. Survivors left to cherish her memory are her husband, Mickey Blissit; son Michael and wife Kelley along with her pride and joy, her three granddaughters: Jordan, McKenna and Logan; son Mark and husband, Rick Dixon; sisters Judy Talley and husband Wayne; and Debbie Dragoo and husband Arlin; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held for her on Saturday, May 9, 2015, with visitation at 3:30 pm, and service to follow at 5:00 pm, at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar. The family asks that you write down a special memory you might have of Jan and bring it to the visitation or post it on the Cook Walden website. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations go to The American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association .
