Notes
Death
On July 4th, 2015, we lost an incredible father, grandfather and devoted friend when Mickey Blissit passed away surrounded by his children and adoring granddaughters in the comfort of his home. The loss is felt by so many who knew and loved him. It gives us much solace to know that Mickey has joined Jan in Heaven, and they are, at last, reunited again. Mickey was born in Hillsboro, Texas on June 27, 1938 to Horace Blissit and Mary Frances (Chic) Blissit. Mickey spent his early years in his much beloved city of Galveston, Texas where he forged a loyal friendship that has spanned a lifetime. His family moved to Austin where Mickey attended McCallum and later graduated from Austin High School. He spent his spare time racing cars and enjoying life. At 18 years of age, Mickey met the love of his life, Janis Rae Furr. They married in 1960 and had two sons, Michael and Mark. Whether coaching baseball with friends at the Delwood Optimist Club, shooting pool or hanging around the swimming pool in the backyard, family came first. After raising two boys, the love and respect he felt from them could have never prepared him for the complete adoration of his three granddaughters. The lion of a man melted with the devotion of his girls. The word "no" disappeared from his vocabulary and he became joyously wrapped around their little fingers. Mickey and Jan celebrated 55 years of marriage in March and rarely spent time without each other. They shared a passion for UT baseball, family and each other. Theirs was a true love story that continues to inspire all who knew them. Mickey served as President of Austin Title Company for over 45 years and led it to become the premier title company in Austin. Before retiring in 2009, he mentored countless title industry professionals, many of whom attribute their success to his years of support and dedication. Mickey is preceded in death by his wife, Janis Rae Blissit, and his parents, Horace and Mary Frances Blissit. Survivors who will cherish his memory are son Michael and wife Kelley along with his pride and joy, three granddaughters: Jordan, McKenna and Logan; son Mark and husband Rick Dixon; sister-in-laws Judy Talley and husband Wayne; and Debbie Dragoo and husband Arlin as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 12:00 noon at St. John's Methodist Church, 2140 Allandale Road. Visitation begins at 10:30am with interment at Austin Memorial Park immediately following services. A reception for family and friends will follow interment at the home of Mickey and Jan. The family would like to give special thanks to the Hospice Austin nurses and caregivers. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations go to The American Cancer Society or The Austin Alzheimer's Association .Endnotes
