Death
Services for Katie Kennedy Furr of Wesson are at 10:00 am, Monday, November 2, 2009, at Wesson Baptist Church, with interment immediately following at Wesson Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, November 1, 2009, from 5:00-8:00 pm at Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven and Monday, from 9:00 until time of the service at the church. Mrs. Furr, 83, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson following a lengthy illness. She was born August 8, 1926, in Magee, Ms to Wade Alexander Kennedy and Kitty Yelverton Kennedy. She was the youngest of three children. She graduated from Magee High School in 1944. While working at Standard Oil Company in Jackson immediately following WWII, she met and married Lester R. Furr, Sr., her husband of 52 years until his death in 1998. Katie and Lester owned and operated Wesson Pharmacy for 21 years from 1951 until 1972. Mrs. Furr later served for 10 years as secretary to the dean of students at Co-Lin Community College. Mrs. Furr was a member and past Regent of the Ole Brook Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Furr realized her true calling, however, later in life as a grandmother to her two beloved granddaughters. She devoted the majority of her time, energy, and love to the benefit of Abby Elizabeth and Perry Katherine. Scores of childhood and adult friends of Abby and Perry know Mrs. Furr simply as "Neenee". She was a member of Wesson Baptist Church her entire adult life serving in many different capacities through the years. She served as organist, pianist, church secretary, choir member, and Sunday School teacher to name just a few. She was a true child of God and was unafraid of proclaiming her love of Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lester R. Furr, Sr.; her son, Lester R. Furr, Jr. (Randy); brother, Wade Kennedy; and sister, Martha Green. She is survived by her son, Richard Kennedy Furr and wife Robin of Wesson; and granddaughters Abby Furr Garcia of Brookhaven and Perry Katherine Furr of Wesson. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to the Lester R. (Randy) Furr, Jr. Memorial Band Scholarship at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The Clarion Ledger, Jackson, Mississippi, November 11, 2009
