Death
CONCORD - John Robert Furr, age 96, of 3030 Zion Church Road, Concord, passed away Jan. 3, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center. Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Roberta United Methodist Church, of which he was a member, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Deval Mason will officiate. Burial will be at Roberta United Methodist Cemetery immediately following the service. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord, Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. Born Dec. 21, 1907, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late D.V. and Sarah Blackwelder Furr. He retired from H&W Clothing of Concord. On Dec. 21, 2003, Mr. Furr and Mrs. Furr celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary as well as Mr. Furr’s 96th birthday. Survivors include his wife, Ivy Dulin Furr; a daughter, Hilda Furr Robinson; two sons, Donald B. Furr and Kenneth E. Furr; a sister, Irene F. Little; two brothers, D.V. Furr and Harold D. Furr; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rebecca Cochran, Kathleen Litaker and Gertrude Blackwelder, four brothers, Jacob Furr, Fred Furr, Ben Furr and Lawton Furr. Memorials may be made to Roberta United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3925 Cochran Road, Concord, NC, 28027.
