ANDERSON - Mr. and Mrs. Donald B. Furr, Sr., of Anderson S.C. celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today, on December 27, 2009. The couple were married on December 27, 1959 in Conway S.C., by the Rev. George Lovell, at First Baptist Church of Conway. Patricia Ann is the former Patricia Ann Harrelson. She is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Billy Harrelson of Conway. Donald is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Furr of Concord, N.C. The couple's children are Donald B. Furr Jr., of Charlotte, N.C.; Robert Patrick Furr, of Cumming Ga.; Terri Elizabeth Morrill, of Anderson, S.C. The couple have two grandchildren, Michael Nolan Morrill, and Lindsey Elizabeth Morrill. The couple attribute their long lasting marriage to a great sense of humor, patience, and faith in God.Death
Donald Brown Furr, Sr., 85, of Prescott Drive, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Concord, NC, he was the son of the late John and Ivey Dulin Furr. Don was a graduate of Harrisburg High School, where he loved sports and made the Cabarrus County, NC all-star teams for four years in basketball and baseball. He still holds the scoring record in basketball, 50 points in one game for Cabarrus County Schools. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army, where he was selected catcher on the Army Fort Eustis Fast-pitch softball team. He met his wife in Charleston, SC, when he was working for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco International. He was also a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, where he taught a Sunday school class for over 30 years. Pat played the piano and Don led the singing for the pre-school through 8 year old students. He retired from R.J Reynolds after 34 years of service. He and his wife moved to Anderson in 2002 to be close to their daughter, Terri and her children. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, the Woody Enderson Sunday School Class, and served on the usher team. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Ann Harrelson Furr of the home; two sons, Donald Furr, Jr. of Anderson and Robert Patrick Furr of Cumming, GA; daughter, Terri Elizabeth Furr Morrill of Simpsonville, SC and two grandchildren, Michael Nolan Morrill and Lindsey Elizabeth Morrill. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Eugene Furr and sister, Hilda Furr Robinson. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, at Concord Baptist Church with Dr. Don Cox and Rev. Bill Parnell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family is at the residence. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the AnMed Health Neuro ICU, 7 South, and Emergency Room Staff.
