Susan M. Brown was the daughter of Dandridge Brown and Martha Cummins as evidenced by her death certificate and supported by the 1860 and 1870 census and the 1900 census which has Susan as the wife of the head of household, Oliver Townsend. Also in the household is his mother-in-law, Martha Brown. Thereby proving that Martha is Susan's mother.

I don't know where Susan was in 1880.

I assume that he is the second child from these facts:

1. He is the only child listed on the 1900 census.
2. The census says that his mother has had two children and both are alive.
3. He is 10 years of age.
4. The couple has been married for 17 years.

Therefore, I think that it is reasonable to think that their first child is probably 16 years old or so and has moved out of the household. maybe at school, since the father is a physician.
