Notes
Birth
Apr 1871 census gives birthplace as Little Missenden.1891 census gives birthplace as Holmer Green.
1901 census gives birthplace of High Wycombe.
Holmer Green and High Wycombe are both in Buckinghamshire, about 4 miles apart. Holmer Green is a hamlet within the civil parish of Little Missenden. High Wycombe is a sizable town.
The marriage certificate suggests a birth date of 20 Mar 63 to 20 Mar 64.
The 1871 census suggests a birth date of 2 Apr 63 to 2 Apr 64.
The 1881 census suggests a birth date of 3 Apr 63 to 3 Apr 64.
The 1891 census suggests a birth date of 5 Apr 63 to 5 Apr 64.
The 1901 census suggests a birth date of 31 Mar 63 to 31 Mar 64.
The 1905 census suggests a birth date of 1 Jun 62 to 1 Jun 63.
The 1910 census suggests a birth date of 15 Apr 63 to 15 Apr 64.
The 1920 census is illegible.
The 1925 census suggests a birth date of 1 Jun 63 to 1 Jun 64.
Applying the rule of thumb that the earliest reporting is probably the most accurate, I estimate a birth date of Apr 1863 to Mar 1864. However, it could be as early as 1862 (1905 census) or at late as 1865 (passenger manifest at immigration).
I found an entry in the England Birth index for Apr-Jun 1863. This is consistent with the conclusions above, although not all of the data.
Residence
Her employer is a Baptist minister, John C CracknellMarriage
They were married by Peter Morrison, Minister and James White, Registrar, according to the rites of the "protestant dissenters".She is listed as a spinster. So I infer that this is her first marriage.
Ellen Dykes stood for Christopher at the wedding. The 1881 census shows that he boarded in her household.
Residence (family)
The birthplace is listed as Hailey, Yorkshire in the index record. This is a transcription error; the actual record says "Oxfordshire, Hailey". Hailey is a few miles from "Ramsden".Marriage
The 1910 census says married 9 years. This is consistent with a date of Apr 1900 to Apr 1901. Her first husband died in 1899.Residence (family)
Census records his name as McGolganImmigration
Lydia and the two children arrived on the SS Philadelphia. Her husband, Patrick, was already residing in Brooklyn. This date is consistent with 1910 and 1930 census. The 1920 census suggests other dates, but the passenger list provides better evidence.
Naturalization
Possibly neverListed on 1925 census as alienDeath
The cemetery notice showed her age as 57. The obituary said the cause of death is a stroke. The later memorium is evidence that Herbert, Tillie and Alice were all still alive in 1929.Endnotes
