Notes
Marriage
Clarence Rosenberger recalls that "they honeymooned in Atlantic City."Baptism
Elmer W. ROSENBERGER's family attended Hatfield Church of the Brethren. Elmer W.grew a mustache due to discomfort shaving his upper lip. He was forbidden to take communion by the elders of the Hatfield Church because a mustache was not considered appropriate in the order of the Brethren. He then began attending Germantown Church of the Brethren, 18 miles from Lansdale. Because Germantown Church was nearer to the city - Philadelphia - it was not as strict on questions of dress and that congregation welcomed Elmer W. and his mustache.Clarence ROSENBERGER recalled that "My Dad's father [Jacob S. ROSENBERGER] was reported to have said 'If my son isn't good enough to take communion here [at Hatfield Church of the Brethren], then I won't either!' And he, too, left the Hatfield Church."
Elmer Wellington ROSENBERGER served the Germantown Church of the Brethren as: Sunday School Superintendent, deacon (Jan, 1929 till death), trustee (Jan 1929 till death), Church Clerk (Jan 1935 till death).
Death
His death was a result of a heart attack which had occurred after thedeath of George Hoffman. Elmer was ill three months after the heart
attack.
A funeral book, kept by his wife Laura May, indicates that the time of death was 3:16 am.
Residence (family)
"Both Clarence and Thelma were born at 50 East Main Street, Lansdale PA.""[The family] lived on Broad Street for several years."
Occupation
Clarence H. Rosenberger recalls that "Elmer bought a General Store in Line Lexington. As newly weds, [Elmer and Laura HAINES] lived in the back of the store. Pearl [ROSENBERGER] was born in the store in 1906."Occupation
The DeHaven and Townsend Firm was dissolved in Aug 1943.Religion
Elmer's family attended Hatfield Church of the Brethren. Elmer, however, was forbidden to take communion there because he wore a mustache, which was not in the Brethren order of dress. (Son Clarence says it was because of the discomfort he had in shaving his upper lip.) Elmer then traveled the 18 miles into the city to attend Germantown Church of the Brethren. Being close to the city, it was not as strict about the order of dress and he was welcomed and permitted to take communion there.Endnotes
