Notes
Marriage
"I have a vivid mental picture of my grandmother [Ann Eliza Rosenberger] dressed in the typical plain black clothes of a Dunkard woman. There was one thing I could depend upon when I was around my grandmother, and particularly when I sat by her in church, and that was the constant feeding from a never ending supply of candy." From GENEALOGY OF I.J. AND C.H. ROSENBERGER (unpublished) by Clarence H. Rosenberger, November 21, 1938, Bethany Seminary, pg. 5.Occupation
"I have some very beautiful memories of my grandfather [Jacob S. Rosenberger]. In my mind's eye I can see him sitting in his old rocker holding the English Bible in one hand and stroking his long, wavy, white beard with the other hand. I mention the English Bible because he had in his early days used German entirely and by painstaking effort with his Bible he acquainted himself with the english language. Again I can see him tinkering in his workshop in the barn. Just the odor of that place enchanted me and I never had to worry about broken toys for I knew that Grandad could fix them in his workshop. While my grandfather lived I doubt there was ever a day that my mother was not bothered by my question, 'Can I go to Granddad's now?'" GENEALOGY OF I.J.. AND C.H. ROSENBERGER (unpublished) by Clarence H. Rosenberger, November 21, 1938, Bethany Seminary, pg. 3-4..Retirement
John O'Leary, in an e-mail 19 Jan 2004, reported Jacob Stover "built three houses to rent and live[d] off the income for retirement."Religion
When his son Elmer was denied communion by the Hatfield Church, Jacob S. is reported to have said, "If my son isn't good enough to take communion here [at the Hatfield Church of the Brethren] then I won't either." So the entire family began attending Germantown Church of the Brethren 18 miles away, closer to the city of Philadelphia.Endnotes
