Notes
Birth
According to the 1850 Census, included on pg 3 of Mary Frances NEIDERHISER's genealogy, he was born in Switzerland. However, her written comments, pg. 1, indicate "he was born in Schwartzenau, Germany, migrated to Switzerland, and then to America." Source of this information unknown.
Paul R. Neiderhiser reports that "Rudolph Neiderhiser and Roseanna his wife were both born in Schwarzenau, Germany...." He indicates the date of 27 Aug 1784 as Rudolph's birthdate.
Schwarzenau was in the Palatinate area of Germany, the home of many religious dissenters.
Carolyn ZUNKLE Parker recortds Rudolph's birth date as "27 July 1784"
Marriage
They had 11 children. According to the ages listed on the ship's passenger list, their oldest child, Rose Anne, was born in 1812. The youngest, Henry Sula, was born during their voyage from Europe to America in 1833. Therefore, a marriage date of "about 1810" seems a good estimate.Emigration
Paul Neiderhiser estimates the date of thie emigration to be about 1823 based upon data from the 1860 census indicating Catherine's birthplace in 1822 as Germany and John's birthplace in 1824 as Switzerland.Occupation
The handwriting on the "Passenger List" is dim and difficult to read. Rudolph's occupation is listed but is not clear.Immigration
Mary Frances NEIDERHISER notes that "[Rudolph and Roseanna's] son, Henry, was born on the ocean and was named Henry Sula because the ship on which they crossed was named SULA..." She notes further, "They were nine months in crossing the ocean." A handwritten note indicates the family "had left from Bern, Switzerland with ten children."The passenger list of the ship SULLY indicates that they embarked from Le Havre, France and landed in New York.
Paul Neiderhiser indicates the date of arrival in New York as "22 July 1833."
Residence (family)
Don Neiderhiser says "Rudolph and Roseanna settled in Berlin Somerset Co...."Burial
Bob and Carolyn Parker, reporting on their 18 Jul 2007 visit to Porch Cemetery: "...in Memory of Rudolph Niderhiser, Died July 19, 1862, Aged 77 yrs, 14 mos, 22 ds (father of Jacob Neiderhiser....) Note the spelling of Niderhiser and that the stone begins 'In Memory of' which may mean he is not actually buried there but a stone was put up in memory of him."Endnotes
