Death

Remembrances of Vinna (Bowers) Helstern, tape-recorded 1989 by Bob Gross“[Carol] and Joy were having a big argument at the supper table one night. [Carol] was getting the worst end of the bargain with Joy. (Somebody said one time, ‘Joy should have been a lawyer!’) Finally, [Carol] said, ‘That’s what Daddy said and he ought to know. He’s a schoolteacher.’ Joy hadn’t gone to school yet. She looked at [Carol] and said, ‘Teachers don’t know everything.’”
Illness
In about 2001, she moved into Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville OH. By 2004 she was living in the dementia unit. In June, 2007, she was moved to the health care area. In the spring of 2008, the family transferred her to Brookhaven Nursing Home so she would be closer to children and grandchildren.Endnotes
