OXFORD -- Mrs. Lillian Matthews Critcher, age 97, of 201 Prospect Ave., died Friday, January 29, 1999, in Granville Medical Center. Mrs. Critcher was a native of Vance County and the daughter of the late Ben and Mary Fuller Matthews and the widow of Casper P. Critcher. She was a very active member of Enon Baptist Church and the Flat River Association for 73 years and had taught all ladies Sunday school classes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, from Enon Baptist Church by the Rev. James Shelley, Jr. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte C. Harris, widow of James E. Harris, of Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. Mary Alice C. Howard, widow of Coolidge H. Howard, of Oxford; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Belle O'Brien and Mrs. Mary Lee O'Brien, both of Henderson; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Family requests omission of flowers and memorials to a church of your choice.
Active pallbearers will be Oscar Yancey, James Henry Critcher, C.W. Hobgood, William Pritchett, Leonard Barker, Randy Hart, Bill Currin, and Winfred Huff.
Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
