Individual Details
Valentine Harmon
(Ca 1796 - )
Probably born about 1796 when family was in Madison Co KY; the family was in Garrard Co by 1797. From 1798 to 1815/1816 lived on Hurricane Creek in what is now Livingston County, Kentucky.
From Richard Davis:
Valentine Harmon was listed as age 10 to 16 in the 1810 census (born 1794 to 1800). In the 1820 census at Monroe County, Mississippi he was listed as age 18-26 (born 1794-1802) and occasionally about/absent. In the 1815 Livingston County tax records Valentine Harmon was taxed under age 21 (born after 1794/1795) next to John Harmon over age 21 (b. 1794 or before) and each had 50 acres and two horses. In the 1816 tax list for Livingston County, John Harmon was the only one taxed and he now had 100 acres and he was over age 21. It looks like John ended up with Valentine's 50 acres.
Deed Livingston County, KY
DB B-142 22 Sep 1809
Robert Kirk sold to Valentine Harman, lot #30 in Kirksville for $10 with witnesses James Trimble, Anthony Groves, Solomon Turner, Joshua Groves, Kizia Harman and Luddy Harman. [Valentine was only about age 14]
Deed Livingston County, KY
DB E-52 30 Jun 1820
Valentine Harmon of Alabama sold to James Love, lot 30 containing ½ acre in Kirksville for $75 and Boling Thompson signed for Valentine Harmon.
Boling Thompson signed for Valentine. Israel Harmon had lived on land in Livingston County that was entered by Boling Thompson. Boling was in Livingston County as early as 1802. Since Jacob Harmon was dealing with Boling back in Lincoln County and then Israel and Valentine with Boling in Livingston County, they appear to be related somehow. I wonder if Boling's mother was a Harmon. Boling was the son of Perkins Thompson and had siblings William Perkins Thompson, Jemima Ann Thompson and Sarah Thompson. Boling was born in about 1777 and I think was the oldest child in the family.
Valentine married Nancy McCarter, 17 Feb 1820, Jefferson Co, AL
This is where his sister Rebecca (Harmon) Lacey was living and it explains where he was living when he sold his lot in Kirksville, Livingston County on 30 Jun 1820. When the census was taken in 1820 (enumeration date 7 Aug 1820) Valentine had moved over and lived next to his brother Stephen.
In 1825 Valentine Harmon was a witness to a deed at Monroe County, Mississippi involving Thomas Woods of Pickens County, Alabama and Thomas Wilkins of Monroe County, Mississippi.
In the 1830 Census, in Pickens Co.
Valentine Harmon was taxed at Choctaw County, Mississippi from 1837 to 1844. In the 1841 Mississippi state census at Choctaw County, Valentine Harmon had two males between 21 and 45 years, 2 males under age 21, 5 females under age 16 and 1 female over age 16, 10 total in the household. He owned 80 acres in Choctaw County.
